Using Access making a query that counts the records in one field and displays the count in another.?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I’m trying to use the field sale.saledate to create a query. I want to count all the sales in that field that occured before 1/16/1995 and display the results in a ‘No of Sales’ field.

You can use a statement like this . . .

txtSales = DCount("*", "SALE", "SALE.saledate < #1/16/1995#")

where SALE is the table name and txtSales is a Text Box.

Now you can use the contents of txtSales in another query (or wherever) as needed.

How do I increase the number of rows in a Microsoft Access 2003 Query?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

When I drag the edge of the query down to display more rows, then close it, then open it again, it defaults back to 14 rows. I would like the queries to be individually sized, but they are all the same. I am almost certain this did not happen with Access 2000. I have tried changing the width of a column first, then dragging the edge, then saving the query but to no avail.

by easy steps ..
1- open query in editable mode .
2- make table/query source visible in the opened-query screen.
3- scroll the table/query source to find your desired column/s you need to add.
4- left-button mouse hold down then drag them to the query grid area then release mouse.
5- all column/s will be added automatically …

:)

Is there a way to make my filters permanent in my MS Access database queries?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I am working on a database for my church, and I would like to set up a query that includes only certain criteria for a particular field. Is there a way to lock a filter, or to make the filter permanent?

it sounds like you are likely filtering within the table and therefore you had to do it every time.
The most efficient way is the have all your filters in a query and save that query.
1) Click on Query
2) Click New
3) Select the table(s) where the information is coming from
4) Select the field what you want to display
5) On those field that filter is required, put them in the CRITERIA
(if you have question on how, try F1)
6) save if with a name denoting what it is for
DONE – now every time you need to same info, just double click on the query and it will be display the info immediately.

How to access the internet through wifi without a data plan on the blackberry curve 8900?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I have a Blackberry Curve 8900(the new one).

I don’t have any data plan, but I keep hearing that you can access the Browser as long as you’re connected to WiFi. But whenever I try to access the internet through the phone, it keeps saying that I need a data plan to access the internet.

If anyone could tell me how to fix the problem, I’d be happy.

First you must find a wifi hotspot.
Connect to it.
Once your done.
Go into your blackberry.
Options.
Advanced Options.
Browser.
Under Default browser configuration change to Hotspot Browser.

See if that works.

How can i update data in access database created from excel spreadsheet. so, that change is reflected in both?

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I have created an access database by importing data from the spreadsheet. If, I want to update the data in access how can i make sure that the changes are reflected in spreadsheet as well.

Step by step in Excel 2003

In the Excel workbook select the worksheet where you will create the database query.

Select Tools > Macro > Record New Macro > OK

Select Data > Import External Data > New Database Query and create your query

Select Tools > Macro > Stop Recording

Press Alt-F11 to view your code and locate what you just recorded in one of the Modules

Paste the following code in that module below the code you found and execute it once.

Sub SetRefresh()
ActiveSheet.QueryTables( ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Count ).RefreshPeriod = 30
ActiveSheet.QueryTables( ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Count ).RefreshOnFileOpen = True
End Sub

(The extra spaces will disappear when the code is pasted into the module – they are there to ensure readability in Answers. You will need to make sure that = True is on the same line as RefreshOnFileOpen)

That code will result in the Excel worksheet being refreshed every time it is opened and every thirty minutes while it is open. If you don’t need the refresh to happen more often than each time the workbook is opened don’t execute the first line above or change the 30 to 0. Or set a different refresh period by entering the value in whole minutes that you want.

You may have noticed that I told you to record your query creation but did not tell you to look at it. You should take the time to see what is set when you create a query (that’s how I found out about the two values I told you to set) but it is not essential to the stated task. And it gives you something to compare if you ever have a query that works and one that doesn’t.

If you can make all of your changes in Excel rather than Access keeping in sync is even simpler. Just use the File > Get External Data > Link Tables and your Access table will be updated every time your Excel workbook is saved.

I haven’t tried it, and don’t intend to, but I am relatively certain that you will run into trouble of you try to build an Excel query on a table that is linked to Access from the same workbook.

Note: Contrary to what seems to be implied in another answer, tables created in Access with a link to an Excel worksheet are read only in Access and can not be updated there. So you have to pick one or the other of Access or Excel to record all of your changes.
